I want one of these for the sole reason that they have an excellent library of games, and I have heard that many of the C64 ports are the best around for that time period. Anyone have a C64 and can offer some insight?

I have a Commodore 128 that I mostly use in C64 mode.

I have a lot of disks and only a few carts. Q*Bert on cart is very well done.

Most of the arcade ports are very well done. You really need a fast load cartridge if you use disks.

Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond are really good games. I would also recommend Summer Games I & II, Winter and World Games. Can't forget Mission Impossible.

I was raised on friends Commodore 64:s and later got a 128D, which I like onthinice, mostly used in 64 mode. The game library IS excellent and I recommend, to only name a few: (links to gameplay)

The Last Ninja I, II and III
Platoon
Myth
Leaderboard
Barbarian
Commando
Ghosts n´Goblins

Art Studio and Advanced Art Studio is also great fun if you are into graphics. Easy to use.
Among other things, I used to make my own home video text intros using that.
It wowed some people back in the day… Smile

I had friends with C64 computers and not only does it have a good selection of games but most of the games are very well made.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the links, NumbThumb.

I wasted a lot of time on Leaderboard.

Try to find cartridges for it, and save yourself the trouble of the disk drive.  I had a bunch of cartridges at one point, particularly for River Raid and Omega Race.

Get yourself a Ultimate1541 cart and you can use disk images.
