Did you ever try to sell a modded system on ebay?

I did, and they got ridiculous.

I basically took a front loader NES console, swapped out the red LED with a green one, added faux stereo and composite audio output jacks, disables 10NES lockout chip (no more blinking screens), and painted the console, gun, and controllers a nice teal and white scheme.

Next thing you know, my auction gets canceled by ebay, no explanation whatsoever.

All I can figure is that they were struck by fear of the Nintendo lawyers, maybe for my disabling the lockout chip. I explained to them that the NES top loader did not have a lockout chip installed at all, but they were not swayed. The disabling of the lockout chip also allowed playing of PAL European and Australian exclusive game carts on NTSC NES consoles, and maybe Nintendo might crack down because that somehow "steals" money from virtual console game sales?

I don't know, but there was another guy at the time who was doing some paint and LED mods and never got auctions canceled to my knowledge.

It's against eBay's TOS to offer for sale hardware that will play pirated games; this includes region locking. they're not "afraid of Nintendo's lawyers", they don't want eBay to be a black market.

OK, then perhaps they need to not allow sales of NES top loader consoles, because they are not region locked either. Just speculating here.

That's not a system modified to allow piracy. That's officially released hardware.
