I have a 4-player setup myself. Four players is the most I've played with so far. With only three released games supporting more than that, I don't think it's worth spending a small fortune for more Lynx units.

Has anybody played with 6 or 8 players? Has anybody else even played with 4 players for that matter?

I've never had the chance to use the multiplayer feature of the Lynx.
