Sweet controller alternative

I picked up one of these at Salvation Army this weekend. It works in combination with a custom PC to 5200 adapter I had made. I tried it out with Pac Man, River Raid and Boulder Dash. The analog thumb stick offered tight control on all three games. Too bad nothing like this released with the console back in 1982.

Cool that you made your own adaptor! It really would have been a nice alternative back then.

Thanks. It is nice to play games with. My favorite system from early 80's is the much maligned 5200. Anything that makes playing games on it more enjoyable is always a plus.

Actually, I bought two home made adapters from Bohoki over at Atari Age some years back. One of the best investments I ever made. There are schematics readily available on the net, but he only asked $10 a piece and I didn't have to do the soldering work.

Sounds like you got a great deal with those adapters! I would have rather payed the $10 than do the soldering work myself as well!

I have done some soldering and it didn't look out of my league, pretty simple really. But Bohoki offered and makes a good product.  

Unfortunately, he doesn't post much over at AA these days.

Seems to be a common theme. Members drop off and new ones take there place. Maybe he has been busy on another project.

I will be making and selling 5200-PC controller adapters on ebay soon. Just waiting for one more batch of components to arrive. I am hoping there is a fair amount of demand and they sell well. I really believe these make the 5200 a nicely playable system.
