My first Intellivision model I console came with these sticks in place of the stock directional discs. They are good on some games, and not so good on others. Does anyone else have experience with Intellivision 3rd party stickler sticks? If so, do you like them or loathe them?

I am glad you posted this sloan! I have been undecided about them for some time. They look neat but wondered if the price and time to track them down was justified.

So I too would like to hear more input good or bad?

You can buy them new in the package at Atari2600.com or 4jays.net. I cannot remember exactly which site has them, and for around $9 a set.

It might, if I could find them! Neither site has them right now. I guess I'll have to check on ebay.

Right here. $9.95 a set new in box isn't too bad a deal.

I think I'll have them before the end of the week, so I should be able to test them out over the weekend. I like the fact that they are removable.

Sloan, you mentioned that you repair 5200 joysticks. Do you do the same thing for Intellivision contollers? One of my controllers probably needs some adjustments made to it. The disc is sunken. It does work but I don't know if it will stop working any time soon because of this.

These arrived today! I did not realize I'll have to open the controllers to install these joysticks but that's cool. Looking forward to testing them out!

Interesting that you say the stickler sticks are removable. Mine are not, short of disassembling the controller casing.

As for repairing INTV controllers, my main hindrance is getting replacement parts. There is nowhere that I know of still selling NOS INTV controller parts. I can still (thankfully) buy most 5200 controller parts NOS through Best Electronics out of California.

I just got them today (not sure if you saw my follow up post). I have to open the controller to set them up. I guess they are removable if you go through the process again!

That's too bad about the parts for the controllers. I just found the spring and button for the Inty II on ebay. I think I'll get them because I think that's the problem with my controller. The spring has probably seen plenty of action!

Thanks. I bought some conductive paint, but haven't tried it yet. The trick with that technique is holding the faulty circuit up to a light in order to see any cracks that need repaired.

I wonder why it is so difficult to find parts for these controllers. It seems many of the old consoles have parts to be found with little issue.

I know in the case of Atari, the guy who started Best Electronics bought out a bunch of boxed stock from Atari. Unfortunately, I will guess that when Coleco and INTV corp bailed on their console business, there were many parts and controllers that went to the trash dumpster. Just a guess, but no massive stock of CV or INTV controllers/parts/games have turned up over the years.

That'll be a problem as the consoles die off.

Agree, and is the reason that classic gaming is all bound for PC emulation, sooner or later. Neutral

At least, that alternative exists. It would be nifty if there were console emulation. In other words, a modern console that would run an emulator of one or several of these classic machines so the player can have an experience closer to what it was meant to be.

Plus to emulation is that is has potential to clear out lots of space in my house if I no longer need all this hardware.

Well, I'm hoping that this sort of emulation comes to OUYA after it is released. OUYA is the new Android-based game console that is a Kickstarter project. If OUYA gets all sorts of emulator going (Android already has a ton of them), that would make things even better.

There is a MAME emulator for Android already. It probably would need minor tweaking to work with OUYA.

Something else about OUYA: Doesn't this already widely exist with something called a modded Xbox console? I know a guy who has basically every game ROM up to current gen on his Xbox. So why would these guys pay for an Android emulation console if they have a modded Xbox already?

This Android console is more than just for emulation. It already has exclusive games planned. You can read about OUYA here: OUYA Kickstarter
If you look at the updates, you can see about the game exclusivity. This is an open source console.

Snap-together construction. Use a jeweler's flat head screwdriver along the edges to find the points where the snap tabs are located.

I will try that. Thank you. I'll probably put the stick on one and leaver the other with the disk. In fact, I have to fix one (replace the spring). I'll do that this weekend. Need to so I can improve my DK and D2K scores! Smile
